Originally designed as a custom order for Gabrielle Coco Chanel by Louis Vuitton’s grandson Gaston in 1925, the bag is named after the Alma Bridge, which connects two renowned Paris neighborhoods over the Seine. In French, vernis means varnish, explaining the shiny and sparkly effect of the bags.
